Australia's Leaders in Sustainable Forest Management

Monday, March 21 is World Forestry Day – a day celebrated around the world by the forest industry and foresters and an occasion to celebrate advances in forest science, and recognising the need to deliver sustainable forest management.

As part of World Forestry Day, NAFI is releasing a new publication - Australia’s Achievements in Sustainable Forest Management - that highlights the actions that Australia’s forest industry has taken to make sustainable forest management a central principle in all our forest activities.

“Australian governments at all levels have made a strong commitment to high standards of forest sustainability, through the National Forest Policy Statement and the Regional Forest Agreements,” said NAFI CEO Catherine Murphy.

“Around the world and in Australia, independently assessed voluntary standards allow the best forest managers to get recognition for adopting more advanced sustainable forestry practices.”

The report highlights nine Australian forest management organisations that have achieved independent certification for sustainable forest management.

These leading forest managers are:
- Albany Plantation Forests Company
- Forestry Tasmania
- ForestrySA
- Gunns Ltd
- Integrated Tree Cropping
- Hancocks Victorian Plantations PL
- Gunns Ltd Integrated Tree Cropping
- Pinebank Pastoral Co, Tarago NSW
- Timbercorp Forestry PL
- WA Plantation Resources PL (WAPRES)
