Carbon Sink Forest Legislation
The new carbon sink forest legislation allows a tax deduction for the costs for establishing forests for the purpose of carbon sequestration, by treating the carbon sink forests as a capital item for tax purposes.
The requirement that forests meet natural resource guidelines and not interfere with existing patterns of water use, together with the likely increasing price of water, mean it's highly unlikely carbon sink forests will overtake agriculture on productive farmland.
